Centriq at
the Races - July 2010 This
year Africa’s greatest horse racing event, the VODACOM
DURBAN JULY, had a nail-biting finish! You can still
feel the anxiety of the 50 000-strong crowd as Bold
Silvano and Irish Flame battled it out to the end. The
excitement of the announcer still echoes “... aand
its Bold Silvano and Irish Flame galloping neck and neck
towards the finish line... just a few metres to go...
it’s the last big push.... will the crowd favourite
Irish Flame beat the three year old Bold Silvano?
AAANNDD NOO... IT’S BOLD SILVANO! Beating Irish Flame by
a length followed by Orbison snatching third place!...
... And there you have it Ladies and Gentlemen, the 2010
Vodacom Durban July winner is the Ascot Stud, bay colt,
Bold Silvano!” Looking back on
a tremendous weekend... The
weekend, hosted by Michael Blain, Neil Ashcroft, Martin
le Roux and their respective partners, was soon in full
swing as esteemed clients Chris and Julie Watson, Chris
Hummel and Julia, Tarryn Daniel of Manwood and Hugh and
Ramona Murcell joined in. Friday
evening kicked off with a delectable dinner at Hugh and
Ramona’s restaurant - Tapas on the Block - where after
the group sang, danced and cavorted to the memorable
lyrics of Abba at the Super Troupers show at The
Barnyard Theatre. Saturday was just as
compelling. The Greyville Racetrack crowds were treated
to a fantastic display of colour, pizzazz and
exhilarating entertainment while the elegance of the
champagne-totting fashionables and the stamina and power
of the horses were captured by our very own budding
photographer, Michael Blain. And as
all good and wonderful things do...the weekend slowly
drifted to a close. But not before devouring a hearty
English breakfast and greeting farewells until next
year. What a way to end off a high-spirited weekend!

Undoubtedly, the Durban July is the
