IAN KIRK - Non-Executive Chairman
Ian was born in Dublin in 1958 where he
attended Sanford Park School, Trinity College Dublin and
qualified as an ACA (Ireland) in 1979. He was selected
for the PriceWaterhouse international service program in
1981 and transferred to Johannesburg as an assistant
manager. He joined the Johannesburg office’s computer
audit department in September 1981. Ian completed his CA
(SA) in 1984, a H.Dip in Business Data Processing at
WITS in 1985 and the Certified Information System Audit
qualification in 1985. He was appointed to the
partnership in 1986 and took overall responsibility for
the computer audit function in the firm. Having held
responsibility for audit methods and audit research Ian
founded the insurance industry practice in 1989, and was
appointed to run the Johannesburg office in 1994 and
appointed Deputy Head of ABS (Audit and Business
Advisory Service) in 1995. Early in 1996 Ian was
approached to join AGA Holdings as Managing Director. In
December 2004, Capital Alliance Holdings was sold to
Liberty Group in a transaction valued at R3.3 billion.
Ian was appointed Deputy CEO of Liberty Group in March
2005.Ian was appointed CEO of Santam Ltd in 2007 and is
chairman on the board of Centriq Insurance Holdings Ltd.
MICHAEL BLAIN – Chief Executive Officer
Michael is a qualified Chartered Accountant, holds
Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting degrees
from the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as an
MBA from Wits Business School. He is also a member of
the Financial Planning Institute and a Certified
Financial Planner. Michael completed his formal
professional training at KPMG and was seconded to
Hartford, Connecticut for two years. On returning to
South Africa in 1995, he held the position of AGM
Finance and Special Projects at Commercial Union, and
later, Finance Director at PSG Anchor Life, before
joining Nova Group in August 2000 as General Manager
Business Development. Michael was appointed as Chief
Executive Officer of Centriq Insurance in July 2005 when
Nova Group Holdings was purchased by Santam Limited and
Kagiso and merged with Santam Risk Finance to create
Centriq Insurance.
GARETH BEAVER – Financial Director
As a CA with qualifications including a B.Comm and B.Acc
degrees from Wits, Gareth has also been awarded with an
advanced certificate in Taxation from UNISA and Advanced
Valuation Techniques from the Gordon Institute of
Business. He started his career off at Ernst Young as an
auditor and tax consultant before serving at Glenrand
MIB Limited as Managing Director of the Alternative Risk
Transfer business unit, and then Group Financial
Director and Group Strategy Director. He also set up his
own BEE business – Dipeo Investments (Pty) Ltd between
2003 and 2006. Gareth then moved on to become Managing
Director at Admiral Underwriting Group and was then
appointed as Executive Director Finance and Support
Services at Stalker Hutchison Admiral Underwriting Group
when the two companies merged. In 2009, Gareth was
appointed Finance Director of Centriq Insurance.
QUINTEN MATTHEW – Non-Executive Director
Quinten is the Head of Specialist Business at Santam
which incorporates the responsibility for Underwriting
Managers as well as specialist branches of business.
Quinten holds directorships on various companies which
include Corporate Sure, Travel Insurance Consultants,
Stalker Hutchison Admiral, Infinit Private Client
Solutions and Vulindlela Underwriting Managers. Quinten
has a Fellowship in Insurance and a Certificate in
Financial Analysis from Wits. He joined Santam in 2003
and previous work experience included Swiss Re and
Mutual and Federal.
MACHIEL REYNEKE – Non-Executive Director
Machiel has overall responsibility of the finance as
well as IT function of Santam Ltd, including financial
reporting, corporate finance, investments, tax, internal
audit, company secretarial and corporate legal services.
