THE GIFT OF
GIVING
As a member of the South African corporate community,
Centriq has a responsibility and desire to make a
contribution to the upliftment of the broader community.
The focus is on children’s education, specifically in
terms of early childhood development (ECD) as it is
extremely important. In fact, some of the statistics
conclude that if the ECD in one generation can be
effective, poverty can be eradicated. Because ECD occurs
through play, pre-schools become the focal point where
currently, usage of classroom space is not optimal and
classrooms need to be creative and conducive to create
maximum opportunities for children to play.
Centriq believes that the formative years of a child’s
development can often be the primary determinant of that
child’s future, which is why a partnership with
Education Africa was established after careful
consideration. It is a well established and administered
NGO which met Centriq’s CSI Committee’s requirements.
Centriq has entered into a five year (annually
renewable) agreement with Education Africa to fund the
employment and support of an Early Childhood Development
Practictioner (ECDP) to service the areas of Wheelers
Farm, Orange Farm and surrounding areas. The ECDP’s main
responsibility will be to roll out workshops to the
local caregivers in the identified areas and to provide
material and other support when required to do so.
Centriq is playing a personal role in one of Education
Africa’s projects through adopting an ECD centre,
Thembelilhe and
partaking in activities to uplift the centre and the
community serviced by this centre. The ECD centre
Thembelilhe was identified as being most in need in the Wheelers Farm
community.
We look forward to participating in this initiative
which enables all Centriq staff to become involved in
uplifting the community within which we operate.
